Old Downtown Athens

Walking in the "heart" of old Athens is always a beautiful adventure for the eye. In this labyrinth of narrow and wide streets there's a mixture of byzantine and ottoman air.

Many old orthodox churches were built on greek temples. Ancient marble was also used in various others constructions during the Middle Ages.

On the pedestrian areas street sellers try to make a living.

There's an attractive mess all over.

Hey, miss! You want a ride? No. Just a pic. Thanks.

The historic center as well as its traditional shopping center is located in the area between Mitropoleos, Athena and Stadiou Streets and is considered to be the “heart” of Athens.

Over 2.000 stores and businesses of all kind are located in this area.

Κites have a field day these days as many children eagerly await the Clean Monday to kick them in the sky.

Small-sized flags of Greece are back on the stand 'cause in a few days it's the National Day of Independence.

" I've been working on this same corner for 40 years. It's never been worse".

During crisis flower sales in stores fell by 50% but the interest in do-it-yourself raised. People, now days plant not only flowers on their balconies but grocery too.

I chose the Eros(=love) flower to wish you all a nice day...

from the heart of Athens.
