What Greeks think about Cyprus bailout

As the whole world is watching anxiously the dramatic developments in Cyprus, Greeks remain frozen from shock. The President of Cyprus, in his statements, compared the current situation to that of the turkish invasion of the island in 1974. At the same time, the Greek Prime Minister expressed his sympathy and understanding and...that was all. None of them denies that we live in a new occupation regime but no one seems prepared to react.

"We don't have politicians with strong personality that are able to formulate policies but merely follow and obey the commandments of Merkel" says Michalis.

Michalis is Cypriot. He was born and grew up in Limassol before he came to Athens to study journalism.

"As soon as Anastasiadis was elected we knew that this was going to happen. It's such a shame for Cypriots. When I heard the news, the first thing I thought was that by next week there will be not money left in cypriot banks."

" Germany wants to take control of russian money and just don't care about people. But that's politics.
What do german people do to stop that? Do they enjoy seeing misery and poverty all over?"

Cypriot bailout is the talk of the town as Athens is getting back in everyday life after the last weekend of carnival and the Clean Monday day-off. Schools and universities are open and these students have some coffee before class.
They all study journalism.

"It's unfair! Germany wants to take total control of Europe. "

"They want to control the world again" says Gregoris, 22.
"Germans do exactly what they did in the past. Merkel wants to destroy all european countries and be the master of the game. We are the next ones. I guess they'll come for our bank accounts soon".

" This is not the European Community we knew.
They divide it in two: the rich and the poor. The countries of South Europe have to unite and follow a common policy against Merkel's totalitarianism. German policy is dangerous for all Europeans".

Florence and Evi are 20 years old. " First of all we want to express our love and support to our brothers and sisters in Cyprus" they say.

"Europe stole our future before steeling Cypriots' money. I'm sure that's it's our turn again, now" says Evi (right). "We've got to stop being pawns in their chess board. We must respond each time they take a move".

"Only if we all go down on the streets can make a difference" says Florence. "We've got to resist to this policy. Imagine millions of Greeks protesting non-stop for a few days. They robbed Cyprus and no one speaks. What's going on here?"she wonders .

"It's not only unfair but also illogical. It was cold blackmail.

This is not Europe of Democracy and Human Rights" says George, 20.

"I believe that we are the next ones. Who's going to stand for our rights? Greek politicians have not guts".

"Greek people suffer and all they care about is to take credits by Merkel".

"This is not going to end well. Society will eventually exploit. Everyone knows that. Even politicians dare to say it clearly, nowmore but do nothing to stop it. I hate conspiracy scenarios but I just can't avoid wondering if that's the plan ".

" I read that Germany's profit from Cyprus' bailout is 15 billions euros" says Demos, 18. " It's all about politics. Germany is taking advantage of the South in order to take control".

"This is dangerous for everyone, not only Greeks and Cypriots. From now on, anyone could wake up one morning to find out that his life-savings are gone. For us Greeks, I believe it's just the right time to vote for the opposition party".
