In the beginning of the month, four young men, aged 20 to 24, were arrested for attempting to rob a bank. They were heavily armed and took a hostage as they were trying to escape from the police. Soon after it proved that they were connected to terrorist groups and the police gave to publicity their photos so as to get more information. The fact that three of them were hit badly opened up the not unknown conversation about police violence.
But that's not something new. What's really new is that all four come from middle or even upper middle class families living in the suburbs. All of them declare anarchists and POWs and say that they will keep on fighting the rotten system 'till their last ball gun.
Among them it is Nickos Romanos, the descendant of a rich and prominent family.
Nickos Romanos is 20 years old. His mother is Pavliva Nassioujik. She's a quite popular writer of high education and daughter of Athanassios Nassioujik who was also a writer. His name though is still remembered not for his writings but for the brutal murder of another Greek writer although Nassioujik never stopped pleading innocent.
Nickos Romanos was also the best friend of Alexis Gregoropoulos and eye-witnessed his cold murder for nothing by a policeman in December 2008.
That night Athens got burnt. Thousands of 14 and 15-year-old teenagers were on the streets destroying everything on their way.
Those teenagers today are adults. They are the future of Greece but, under the current circumstances, most of them have no future themselves.
They either have to get a job abroad and that if they get lucky or stay and fight for the day after.Of course violence is not the answer. But until politicians stop serving the banks and themselves more and more young people are going to take up arms in their hands. Not because they are anarchists by belief but because they'll have to fight for their survival.
p.s: the police is looking for two more university students who are suspects for participation in the same terrorist group.
